Building Better Opportunities

Building Better Opportunities

This project will provide pre-employment support within Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin for people aged 19 and over who are not in work. It focuses on those who are furthest from the labour market, helping them engage in activity to move towards and into employment and is funded by the Community Fund and European Social Fund.

Through the Doorway to Healthy Living will be delivering a variety of courses to over 100 people as part of this programme, all with the aim of improving people’s health and well-being. We have three themes:

Cookery

Our cookery courses focus on preparing healthy food on a budget. They are very hands-on, with the emphasis on learning a variety of cookery skills, and also include information and advice on basic food hygiene, understanding food labels, food groups and portion control. The recipes used and techniques taught can be adapted to suit individuals’ abilities, likes and dislikes.

  • skin, nail, hair care and personal grooming
  • seated yoga
  • breathing for relaxation and other relaxation techniques
  • advice about adopting a healthier lifestyle
